lunch from the oakhurst diner

My mom drove to Lakeville for lunch last Sunday. I was so excited for this meal. I love going out to lunch with my parents on weekends- I always leave room for the meal so I'm extra hungry for some good food, and being able to spend time with my family and Nic is great. Millerton and Lakeville have great restaurant options; for lunch, I think the best is the Oakhurst diner. So that's where we went. Oakhurst is a warm, cozy, classic American diner. The food is a little higher-end than a typical diner, but the typical menu items are all there. We went with the chicken empanadas, avocado toast, and tuna melt.

Chicken Empanadas

These were great. And huge. They're topped with a salsa/sour cream combo, which pairs well. The dough is solid, but what steals the show is the cheese and chicken inside. The cheese is perfectly melted, and the chicken is well-spiced and juicy. Also, the size was perfect.

Chicken: 8/10

Cheese: 7/10

Dough: 7/10

Size: 10/10

Sauces: 8/10

Overall: 8.1/10

Tuna Melt

Ok, next, the tuna melt- my least favorite of the three dishes, but nonetheless a very solid sandwich. The bread is the best aspect here, seasoned with some salt and pepper and toasted perfectly. The tuna fish tasted pretty good, too. There’s just not enough cheese, and the cheese that was present didn’t taste great.

Bread: 9/10

Tuna: 7/10

Cheese: 5/10

Overall: 6.9/10

Avocado Toast

Finally, a monstrous creation. This thing was piled high with avocado, onion, and cilantro, and I loved it. The toast was fine, but the mix they used as a topping was incredible. If you enjoy avocado toast, you’d enjoy this.

Toast: 6.7/10

Avocado/veggies: 9/10

Overall: 7.9/10
