Believe it or not, before this meal, I'd never had a fixed-plate, fixed-rate, expensive, fancy meal before. I'd had expensive bad meals, and expensive good meals, but never fixed-plate meals; I'd only read about diners enjoying this type of luxury, or seen it on TV. Bresca, a French-influenced, Michelin-starred restaurant, was a great start.

Course 1: Halibut//Green Garlic- Vin Jaun//Razor Clams—Walnut

A great selection for first course, in combination with the Beef tartare and Edwards Ham “Choux”. The buttery razor clam added a nice, softer but ultimately more exploratory bite. The halibut tasted fantastic, but was truly made by an amazing green garlic sauce underneath. The sauce was sweet and savory.

Course 2: Dungeness Crab//Ricotta Cavatelli//Spring Onion Parmesan

With my rather unsophisticated palette, my first thought with this course was, “hey, it’s gourmet mac and cheese!” It’s not, obviously- it’s a far more complex dish of tender crab and ricotta topped with a wonderful crispy mixture. However, the mac and cheese comparison is a good jumping off point if you’ve never had something similar to this dish. The crab was tender and creamy, complimented well by the cheese. The crumbs on top were also phenomenal, especially when mixed into the rest of the dish.

Autumn Olives Pork//Wild Fennel//Apple Laurel//Consomme

Fantastic pork. A few pieces were a little too chewy, but other than that, phenomenal. The apple was a great choice, and strangely complimented the environment of the meal very well. The consomme was perfect, and mixed at the end of every bite with the pork and Apple Laurel to generate a sweet-savory combination.

Japanese Cheesecake

Different from every other cheesecake I've had. It was quite sweet/tart, and the texture was drier than anticipated. The white chocolate was an excellent touch, and it was an altogether interesting and enjoyable dessert.
