meet day eats- gbtc invitational

On Sunday, my team drove once again to Boston to race at the Greater Boston Track Club invitational meet. I raced the mile, and ran a solid time of 4:44. Like last meet, while I have some disappointments about my race, I thoroughly enjoyed spending the day with my team competing in the sport that I love.

Here’s what I ate to run fast.

6:00 A.M: Yogurt parfait from school snack bar.

I actually really like the school’s yogurt parfait. It has good ratios, good granola, solid fruit, and great yogurt. It’s an easy race day snack.

Yogurt: 8/10

Fruit: 6.5/10

Granola: 6.9/10

Overall: 7/10

10:00 A.M: Granola bar.

Solid bar. Nothing special. I wasn’t really concentrating on the taste at this point; I was mostly focused on the race.

Overall: 6/10

11:30 A.M: Sport Beans.

A race day essential: one small bag of Sport Beans, 30 minutes before each race. These are basically regular jelly beans, filled with sugar, electrolytes, caffeine, and sodium. The impact might be entirely due to placebo at this point, but these help me transition from relaxed to race-focused.

Taste: 6.7/10

Energy: 10/10

Portions: 10/10

Overall: 8.2/10

1:30 P.M: Apple and Peanut Butter.

What a classic snack. You can’t go wrong. Creamy Jif peanut butter and a crisp apple. Overall, a top 5 post-race snack. Maybe I was just hungry.

Apple: 8/10

Peanut Butter: 9/10

Overall: 9/10

3:00 P.M: Mcflurry and a chicken/rice bowl.

After we left the facility, we stopped for a late lunch at the exact same nameless Framingham, MA rest stop as last meet. Once again, I got my main meal from a “natural bowl and wrap” fast food vendor and a McFlurry from McDonalds.

For my main meal, I went with the “Korean Barbecue Chicken Bowl.” It was fine. This place is genuinely healthy, which is good, considering the fact that I downed a McFlurry right after. It wasn’t as good as the “asian chicken wrap” I ate two weeks ago, but it sufficed. The chicken was, at least, better. The sauce was a sesame-honey-barbecue blend, and the veggies were steamed. The rice was, in a word, bleh, but I don’t really love rice to begin with.

Chicken: 7.5/10

Sauce: 8/10

Veggies: 6/10

Rice: 5/10

Portions: 6/10

Overall: 6.5/10

I got the M&M McFlurry this time. I liked it. Not much to say; McDonald’s ice cream is good, and M&Ms are good.

M&Ms: 8/10

Ice Cream: 8/10

Overall: 8/10

7:00 P.M: Shared a meatball/chicken parm grinder and garlic bread with Nic (Mizzas Pizza).
