a whole bunch of fried food, jacob's pickles

After stopping for ramen and doing some shopping during a trip to NYC, I met my friends for a shmorgusbord of fried food. Chris, Eli, and Armaan were the perfect group to enjoy this arterial nightmare with. The food was fantastic, and I was surprised by a few interesting combinations (fried chicken and pancakes. Wow).

We had the mac and cheese, fried pickles, deviled eggs, fried chicken and pancakes, and fried chicken sandwich.

Fried Pickles

I haven’t had many fried pickles in my life, so I can’t really say whether these are comparitavely extraordinary; I know that I personally enjoyed them very much. The batter was very good, and the pickles were solid; the dipping sauce was also great. Solid appetizer all-around.

Pickles: 8/10

Mac and Cheese

This was great mac and cheese. The top was not quite as crispy as I’d have hoped, but the pasta was drenched in a great melted cheese. I have to say that the best mac and cheese I’ve had is still the dish from Riviera Beach, but this comes in a close second. Alongside the fried pickles, a great app.

Mac n cheese: 8.5/10

Deviled Eggs

Wow. These were fantastic. The yolk was whipped to perfection, topped with a great combination of spices, and went surprisingly well as a dipping sauce for the fried pickles. A very interesting and worthwhile appetizer.

Eggs: 9/10

Fried Chicken Sandwich

I mean, obviously, this was going to be good. As soon as the waiter brought out our food, I could tell this was a good sandwich. The bread is quite fluffy, and the chicken has a nice honey drizzle. The batter was nice and crunchy, and the pickles on top were a great addition.

Fried Chicken Sandwich: 8.9/10

Fried Chicken and Pancakes

If you’ve ever had fried chicken and waffles, then you can probably imagine how heavenly this dish was. The chicken was once again drizzled with honey, and the batter was perfect The pancakes were drenched with butter and syrup, which paired so well with the chicken. The best dish of the night.

Chicken and pancakes: 9.5/10

Overall: 9/10
