sampler platter from das ethiopian
When I was 16, my mom, brother, and I took a trip to DC to tour Georgetown University. On that trip, I had my first taste of the school which I will now be attending, and I fell in love. But I also had my first memorable “fancy” dining experience- the Ethiopian sampler platter from Das. When I revisited Georgetown for Admitted Students Weekend, I knew I had to revisit this fantastic Michelin-starred restaurant.
This dish came with Injera, a spongy bread used as an eating utensil. It also lines the plate, soaking up the sauces for future consumption. It's such a nice way to eat a meal; I'm a big fan of Injera.
As for the meats, the platter came with spicy beef, mild beef, spicy chicken, and mild chicken. I can't really describe the tastes other than using the adjectives “spicy” and “mild”. The spicy beef was by far my favorite- in combination with the spongy Injera, the textures and flavors were heavenly. The mild beef was great too, but not as exciting as the spicy beef. The chicken was incredibly well-prepared- it fell right off the bone, and had absorbed the spices nicely. The egg was lackluster; not much going on there. The greens were solid, and made for a good reprieve from the meat. Overall, a meal worthy of a Michelin star.
